Solidarity Picket with Local 26 Striking Marriott Workers!

November 9 @ 5:00 pm - 10:00 pm

Join us to walk the picket line with striking Marriott workers and say one job should be enough! We’ll be doing a weekly Boston DSA picket shift on Wednesdays, 4-7pm until the strike is over; we’ll be at the Ritz-Carlton at 10 Avery St., unless otherwise announce. UH is also holding a weekly rally/picket at the Ritz at 5pm, which moves to the W around 7, on Fridays until the end of the strike– these rallies are huge and a lot of fun to be at!

On October 3, workers walked out at seven Marriott-operated hotels, including the Aloft Boston Seaport District, the Element Boston Seaport District, the Ritz-Carlton Boston, the Sheraton Boston, the W Hotel Boston, the Westin Boston Waterfront, and the Westin Copley Place. This is the first hotel strike in Boston’s history.

Marriott is the largest and most profitable hotel chain in the world, but UNITE HERE Local 26 workers in Boston have had their contracts expire as they struggle to win basic job security, safer working conditions, and jobs that are enough to support their families. Although UNITE HERE workers provide the exemplary guest services that keep Marriott profitable, too many find that when you work at Marriott, one job is not enough. Workers are making a sacrifice to win jobs that are enough to live in the communities where they work and have the dignity of job security and workplace safety.

Supporting this strike is one of the most important ways for us to support our local labor movement. If you’re able, we’re asking those of you who do a picket shift to log the time here so that we can track Boston DSA participation in the strike: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1UyYfXgGfg1wTS35bgaKVYBON3wzlNaLkGOybJL9LY6I/edit#gid=0
