AfroSoC Reading Group
March 15, 2026 @ 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm
Online
We will be reading and discussing Chapter 2 of The Wretched of the Earth by Frantz Fanon. We will meet on Sunday 3/15 at 6pm. The AfroSoC reading group is open to members and non-members of DSA, not just BIPOC comrades!
Reading: (Wretched of the Earth (Frantz Fanon).pdf - Google Drive)
Zoom link: (https://us02web.zoom.us/j/81339341218)
Discussion Questions for Ch 2:
-
Why does Fanon criticize the emergence of political parties?
-
How does Fanon contrast the working classes in capitalist countries and in undeveloped countries? How do the majority of people in undeveloped countries live?
-
What is the divide between country people and townsmen? What is the relationship between country people and nationalist parties?
-
What role do trade unions and national unions play in decolonization?
-
How does the decolonial struggle manifest differently in the towns and in the country? Where does the struggle start, and how does it evolve? What are the “periods” of the struggle?
-
What strategies does colonialism use to fight back against decolonization? How can decolonial movements counter these strategies?
-
How do ethnic and racial lines break down as the decolonial struggle continues?

Massachusetts needs an honest, accountable, and effective state government that can deliver on our values and stand up to the Trump administration. Wear multiple layers and warm clothes, and bring your positivity and enthusiasm 😊
Evan MacKay is a union leader, pro-democracy organizer, and a Harvard teaching fellow. As a Cambridge LGBTQ+ Commissioner and the former president of the Harvard Graduate Students’ Union, I’ve been organizing in Cambridge around issues of social, racial, environmental, and economic justice for over a decade.
Evan is running for state representative in the 25th Middlesex District to fight for a transparent, accountable government that works for the many, not the few. This campaign isn't about one person. It's about a movement for a better world against a corrupt, self-dealing status quo of Democratic state house leadership.
