Mental Health Working Group Monthly Meeting
Mental Health Working Group Monthly Meeting
June 7, 2022 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm
The Mental Health Working Group aims to investigate, discuss, and confront the deleterious effects of capitalism on mental health. We address the material and emotional needs and respect and support the autonomy of neurodivergent individuals and those who struggle with substance use disorders.
The Mental Health Working Group's current projects include:
* The Comrade Rosie Project, comrade-rosie.org, a creative, collaborative, mental health support network, by and for the working class of Greater Boston.
* Monthly Peer Support Sessions, on the 2nd Tuesday of every month, a space where leftists can help each other process life under COVID and under capitalism
* Red Roses Writing Workshop, bit.ly/RedRosesWriting, a low-key creative workshop on the fourth Friday of every month. Comrades are encouraged to bring 1 poem or 2 pages of prose writing to share.
* Chill With Comrades, a social hangout on the 4th Tuesday of every month. Though hangin' on Zoom is not the same as socializing with socialists in person, this provides some unstructured time to get to know your comrades and remember that we are all just people, not organizing machines.
* The MHWG Google site, https://sites.google.com/view/wg-mentalhealth, to facilitate long-form writing, in homage to the historical "committees of correspondence"
* The Epoch of Incredulity, https://anchor.fm/epoch-of-incredulity, the working group's least safe for work side project. Since we cannot go to cheap dive bars after meetings anymore, the MHWG has attempted to recreate the experience via podcast.
We serve as a resource for other Boston DSA members as much as we serve the larger community. Thus, people need not be reserved about their struggles or hesitant to ask for help.
The Mental Health Working Group meets monthly on the first Tuesday of every month from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we have moved all our meetings to Zoom. If you have any questions or for a copy of the agenda, check out the #wg-mentalhealth channel on the BDSA Slack, or email us at mentalhealth@bostondsa.org.

MA Eco-Socialists Degrowth Political Education Discussion
MA Eco-Socialists Degrowth Political Education Discussion
June 13, 2022 @ 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm
Zoom TBA
Join Boston DSA and Massachusetts Eco-Socialists on June 13th to learn about the degrowth movement, how capitalist framing of endless green growth falls short, and discuss how we move towards a circular, sustainable, and just world! Sign up here to receive the zoom link: bdsa.us/degrowth
"What is humanity and our economy’s relationship with the living world?"
Degrowth is “a planned reduction of energy and resource use [in rich nations] designed to bring the economy back into balance with the living world in a way that reduces inequality and improves human well-being.” -Jason Hickel ‘What Does Degrowth Mean?
We'll discuss how degrowth counters predominant philosophies and talking points such as ecomodernism and green growth. What would a degrowth Green New Deal look like, and how might it differ from traditional liberal framings of a Green New Deal and "endless green growth?"
Degrowth is an analytical framework; not a campaign slogan. It provides a critique & path forward. As such, degrowth scholars offer practical steps towards the balanced, fair, and just world economies that are necessary to fight the climate crisis and preserve life for future generations. Please bring your questions and curiosity!

Political Education Working Group
Political Education Working Group
June 30, 2022 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm
Boston, MA
"It’s in making decisions that we learn to decide." - Paolo Friere, Pedagogy of Freedom
Boston DSA's Political Education Working Group meets on the last Thursday of every month at 7 pm, unless we have to move it for a holiday, which happens more often than you'd think. In our April meeting, we will continue our reading and discussion group of the Communist Manifesto and read the third and fourth chapter of the Manifesto, “Socialist and Communist Literature” and “Position of the Communists in Relation to the Various Existing Opposition Parties”.
PEWG's goal is to provide our members with the theoretical knowledge and practical skills to organize effectively and strategically, and to educate the wider public on DSA's vision for a socialist future and the often-erased leftist movements of the past.
PEWG hosts a number of ongoing projects, such as the chapter's political education blog (bostonpewg.org), our Socialist Night School series, and periodic New Member Reading Groups (abcsofsocialism@gmail.com). We also run one-time (or a-few-times) events such as reading groups, lectures, and panel discussions; and work with other working groups in the chapter to run political education events related to their areas of organization.
Due to the COVID-19 public health emergency, working group meetings and events will be held over Zoom until it is safe to meet in person. You can request to join the working group mailing list, where we send out meeting agendas and Zoom links, at https://groups.google.com/g/boston-dsa-education-wg. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to email us at education@bostondsa.org.
